A brief history:
I arrived in Los Angeles in the late 1970s and soon found work at the renowned Sunset Sound studios as an apprentice engineer. There, I worked with and was later recruited by George Massenburg, the brilliant recording engineer/inventor, to be his assistant. Together, we worked on several projects, including a platinum album with Earth, Wind & Fire. When George took time off to build a studio, I knocked on the door of the acclaimed Motown producer, Freddie Perren, and was hired as his main engineer. One of the first records we worked on became a #1 Billboard Hot 100 single and Grammy winner, the iconic Disco anthem "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor. Later, I was hired by the R&B group, The Gap Band. I worked on four of their albums, including the platinum-selling Gap Band III which produced two #1 singles. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of engineering for many extraordinary artists, including Aretha Franklin, Lionel Richie, Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, and Celine Dion, among others. In addition to working on record projects, I have mixed movie scores for major film studios with keyboardist/composer John Barnes, including "Daughters of the Dust" which was named to the National Film Registry in the Library of Congress. When the pandemic came and disrupted everything, I set up a mixing room and now work out of the comfort of my home.
